Synopsis:

Yellow days, yellow haze shows a fragment of the life of two people that, for years, have been living together in a house stripped of all sensory stimulation. Over the course of half an hour the way their bodies move through the space becomes visible, as well as the way they search for connection while living past each other. By isolating themselves from a world that was too overwhelming, a more framed existence has come into being – a life without stimulation, change, and expectation.

Research:

In Yellow days, yellow haze Peeled Collective is researching the relation between silence, change and movement. The necessity for this research arose from an awareness that both makers share: There is a need for change as much as the need for silence. This contradiction is a constant presence in the life of both makers. They see it in their personal life but also in the world around them. There is a great pressure on the society we live in to always be ten steps ahead; be at that party, make career, have a relationship with friends and a partner, study, get a house. It keeps on piling up. The phenomenon ‘Hikikomori’ arose for the first time in Japan but is a syndrome that appears more and more throughout the rest of the world. Hikikomori resign from any form of social life and don’t leave their house anymore for at least 6 months because the pressure of their surroundings became unbearable. This is an extreme form of escaping a reality that seems too intimidating. It is a solution for an individual but it’s not a solution for the bigger problem. Peeled Collective started researching what happens when any form of sensory stimulation stops. When there is nothing to do anymore and no one to talk to.

Peeled Collective started this research as Maker in Huis with Productie Huis Nowhere (Amsterdam). After that they did a short makers trajectory with Makershuis Tilburg at Dans Brabant. They had a research presentation at 'Maker in huis Festival' Productie Huis Nowhere.
