Synopsis

Farewell, end and (perhaps also) new beginning - after dealing with the themes of "love", "dream" and "lies" in the pieces LOVE, HYPNOS and CONFESSIO, Marcel Leemann and Nicolas Streit now examine what concerns us all sooner or later : farewell, end, death.

Together with their dancers and the up-and-coming Bernese multi-instrumentalist Milan Slick (including Mario Batkovic, Reverend Beat-Man), they draw a temporary conclusion and look back at periods of life and relationships. Of places you left, things you did and people you loved. And forward, where the inevitable end of all this and our own transience lurks: But also: flooded coasts, parched lands and bombed-out cities – the end of the world as we know it.

And then: what comes next? In this damn eternity.

CIAO is the last of many joint productions by Marcel Leemann and Nicolas Streit in Bern and at the same time also a conclusion to their successful “Sprungbrett” series, dance theater pieces with dance graduates. For the big finale, dancers from “Sprungbrett” productions from the last three years will come back to the Great Hall as seasoned professionals and meet current graduates of dance training. Together on stage they will ask themselves: Does an end create a beginning? Does death make us all come alive?
